A review of the Tasmanian Permanent Native Forest Estate Policy has been underway in concert with the third five-yearly review and extension process for the Tasmanian Regional Forest Agreement (RFA).
Due to the 2016 Federal Election, the finalisation of the review and the extension of the Regional Forest Agreement have been delayed.
This delay has also impacted on the completion of the Permanent Native Forest Estate Policy review which has been extended to July 1, 2017, or earlier according to the finalisation of the RFA.
Accordingly, during this period, I have decided to retain the current policy settings for the Permanent Native Forest Estate Policy.
The key biodiversity settings, including the 95 per cent retention level, and existing limits to clearing on private land remain the same.
The Policy has been updated to reflect the new timeframes pending the completion of the review and details are available at: http://www.stategrowth.tas.gov.au/forestry/native-forest.
