Extending the Taxi Subsidy Safety Net

The Hodgman Liberal Government will extend the Taxi Subsidy Safety Net for National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) participants to June 30, 2019.

This ensures Tasmanians covered by the scheme are supported as the national policy for NDIS transport funding is settled.

We understand this is an important issue for NDIS participants, their loved ones and stakeholders, as it allows users with transport mobility issues the ability to continue to go to work, attend school, TAFE or university, and socialise with family and friends. Daily tasks and events many of us take for granted.

With our commitment to extend the safety net for a further 12-months, it will bring it into line with the full rollout of the NDIS by July 2019.

The extension will be available to 1240 eligible individuals.

The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), which governs the NDIS, remains responsible for providing transport support for those accessing the NDIS and it is hoped a national agreement will be reached in the next year.

Tasmania remains in line with other states in continuing to provide access to taxi subsidies for NDIS participants while this is determined.

The Department of State Growth is in the process of contacting participants about the extension.
