Extending emergency outreach for homeless Tasmanians

The Hodgman Majority Liberal Government will extend funding for emergency outreach to provide secure, safe accommodation options to those Tasmanians who are homeless or at risk of experiencing homelessness.

Since March, the funding has been used to secure a mix of cabins, hotel and motel style accommodation, with the emphasis on providing safe and secure accommodation for those in greatest need.

This extension of funding will enable Housing Connect to continue their emergency support to those people with complex needs, who require tailored assistance.

We will provide this additional support until the end of June 2019, bringing our total investment to $1.2 million. This outreach support will also inform the work for the second stage of our Affordable Housing Strategy.

We are working hard to alleviate housing stress and homelessness in Tasmania and supporting Tasmanians in need.

Our targets for housing include:

  • Triple the number of new affordable houses by 2025.
  • Sustain home ownership rates of 5% above the national average.
  • A 25% increase in people employed in the building and construction sector over the next five years.
