On Monday, a request was made to the Group Director Clinical Services at the Royal Hobart Hospital to consider implementing a Code Yellow in response to increased patient presentation at the RHH’s Emergency Department.
The Group Director Clinical Services made the determination – based on the fact that there was bed capacity in the hospital at the time – that a Code Yellow was not required and the situation could be managed through existing patient flow management protocols.
For the past four months, the RHH has been reviewing its patient flow escalation protocols which allow resources to be increased in periods of high demand.
The RHH’s Emergency Department Director has designed revised protocols, and staff are currently being consulted on these revised measures, which will hopefully assist in managing higher demand levels.
The Tasmanian Health Services acknowledges the efforts of its hardworking staff in ensuring patients receive the very best of care. Our top priority is ensuring patients receive the care they need in as timely a manner as possible.
