Ex-prisoner housing support to continue through Housing Connect

Ex-offenders leaving prison who require housing assistance will now receive support through Housing Connect, a one stop shop for all Tasmanians in need of housing assistance.

Housing Connect provides a more equitable and fair approach by prioritising those most in need on the basis of what they need, not who they are.

Housing Connect offers more housing options than what can be offered by a narrowly targeted program.  They offer access to a full range of housing solutions, including public housing, community housing and the private rental market. Housing Connect can provide tailored assistance to meet the needs of all clients, including ex-prisoners.

Support through Housing Connect is targeted and provided for the duration of need, with the aim of preventing clients returning to housing crisis.

The Hodgman Liberal Government takes access to housing very seriously, which is why this financial year we are investing nearly $173 million into Housing Services to assist vulnerable Tasmanians.
