EOIs

The Office of the Coordinator-General continues to engage directly with all proponents who have progressed to stage two of the EOI process and it continues to be positively received by those proponents.

A total of 25 eco-tourism projects have proceeded to Stage 2 of the Hodgman Liberal Government's EOI process.

While there is still a long way to go for all these projects to come to fruition, together they represent the greatest influx of tourism projects ever put forward in Tasmania, made possible simply by the Government opening the door to ideas.

We are committed to considering ideas for sensitive and appropriate tourism offerings in our National Parks and the World Heritage Area that are genuinely respectful of the natural and cultural values of those areas.

Proposals will undergo a rigorous assessment and proponents will be required to obtain all necessary statutory approvals as required under State and Commonwealth law.

On the one hand Mr Green is accusing us of assessing these projects too rigorously, on the other the Greens’ are claiming that we aren’t assessing them enough.

We have a goal to transform Tasmania into the environmental tourism capital of the world, to create jobs for Tasmanians and help reach a target of 1.5 million visitors a year by 2020. We want to give more Tasmanians and visitors the opportunity to experience our unique, world class wilderness areas.
