Energy prices remain low under Hodgman Government

The Economic Regulator has confirmed that the Hodgman Government is delivering low electricity prices for Tasmanians.

The Comparison of Australian Standing Offer Energy Prices Report released today shows that prices in Tasmania are in the low range of prices in Australia.  Our energy strategy is committed to keeping downward pressure on power prices and this report confirms that it’s working.  This applies to both electricity and gas prices for residential customers and also for electricity prices for business customers.

Under Labor, electricity prices rose by 65 percent. Under the Liberals, electricity prices have fallen and are still 2.4 percent lower than when we came to office.

While this is good news, there is still more that we can do and that’s why the Government will continue to work at the national level to look at action to keep downward pressure on the price of gas and electricity.

The Prepayment Price Comparison Report was also released today.  It’s important to note that the Report doesn’t take into account the advantage of being able to control spending on energy.

The Government is committed to working to put downward pressure on power prices and also make energy efficiency much more affordable.

That’s why the Government is setting up the $10 million Tasmanian Energy Efficiency Loan Scheme to help Tasmanians realise the benefits of energy efficiency and to support jobs.
