Energy prices, cost of living low under Hodgman Government

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to keeping Tasmania’s power prices as low as possible, to ease cost of living expenses for households.

We are actively working to reduce household costs for vulnerable families in our community, struggling to cope with cost of living expenses.

Under the Hodgman Liberal Government power prices have reduced by 2.4 per cent. Contrast that with what happened under Labor and the Greens. Under the former Government power prices surged by 65 per cent.

The Tasmanian Government has also worked hard to decrease other cost of living expenses. In December, the Motor Accidents Insurance Board’s (MAIB) reduced premiums, meaning Tasmanian motorists will make a direct saving of 7.5 per cent on premiums for a standard motor car.

And, under the Liberal Government’s proposed takeover of TasWater, households will save nearly $550 on their water bill over six years.

Under the Labor/TasWater do-nothing approach, water and sewerage prices are forecast to rise by 5 per cent each year for the next six years.

Tasmanians can rest assured that the Hodgman Government understands the importance of keeping power prices low, and we will continue to keep cost of living expenses down.
