Guy Barnett, Minister for Energy

Energy COAG

Today, energy ministers from across Australia discussed the challenges facing the energy system as a result of COVID-19.

Tasmania’s energy supply remains secure and Governments around Australia are taking important measures to continue to ensure the reliability, security and affordability of the national power grid.

Ministers also encouraged energy generators, retailers and networks to consider support measures for customers experiencing difficult circumstances as a result of COVID-19.

We are actively monitoring developments and our energy businesses are well prepared to manage any potential risks.

Hydro Tasmania, TasNetworks and Aurora have activated their pandemic and Business Continuity Plans to ensure security of supply.

Nationally, energy market bodies are also taking action, and the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) has also implemented its Business Continuity Plans to ensure its critical systems and people remain protected.

Tasmanians can be assured we have taken action to safeguard our energy supply over coming months as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to unfold.
