Encouraging More Tasmanians to Volunteer

The Hodgman Liberal Government is a strong supporter of volunteering because we understand how important volunteers are to all aspects of community life.

Volunteers are at the heart of our communities, selflessly contributing their time to enable events to go ahead, local services to be provided and offering a helping hand in times of need.

Volunteering Tasmania’s new Pop-Up Referral Office in Sorell aims to encourage Tasmanians from all walks of life to consider opportunities where they can give freely of their time to make a positive contribution.

Today, I am very pleased to represent the Government in launching this new office.

We support Volunteering Tasmania with $310,000 a year in funding to aid in its role as the peak body for the volunteer sector, and to support, encourage and help to manage volunteers.

The pop-up office is targeted at those who are interested in volunteering but who would like to know more.

Visitors to the office will be able to find out about those organisations in the local community that are looking to attract new people and what the roles might involve.

The office will serve the communities of Sorell, Midway Point and the Tasman Peninsular from the Sorell Community Health Centre and will be open from 9am to 12pm on the third Monday of every month.

Anyone interested in volunteering can contact Volunteering Tasmania on 1800 677 895, 6231 5550 or by email at admin@volunteeringtas.org.au
