Encouraging Healthy Habits

A healthy food van hits the road from today, with a goal of building a healthier Tasmania.

The Hodgman Liberal Government has provided $50,000 for the purchase of the van, which is a collaboration between the Child Health Association Tasmania and the Tasmanian School Canteen Association.

The “Well Fed Tasmania Food Van” will be used to promote a healthy eating message to all Tasmanians, especially in regional, rural and remote regions.

There are many ways this new resource can be used, including as a pop-up training kitchen, or as a pop-up school canteen to help spread the message that fast food catering can be healthy and delicious.

Programs like this will help us reach the Government’s goal of Tasmania being the healthiest state and having the lowest rate of obesity in Australia by 2025, and I congratulate all those involved in this very worthwhile project.
