Today’s ABS employment figures show that the Hodgman Government’s long-term Plan is delivering.
Under the Hodgman Government, 6,400 jobs have been created and the unemployment rate has dropped from over eight per cent under Labor and the Greens to 5.8 per cent. The unemployment rate now is the second lowest of any state in the country, equal with the national average and the lowest it’s been since October 2011.
In the month of April alone, 600 jobs were created and importantly, 500 of those were full-time jobs. The participation rate has also increased for the fourth month in a row.
Rising business confidence, record retail trading figures, a booming tourism and hospitality sector and a strong building and construction sector are all contributing to jobs growth.
While this is great news, there is still a lot more to do and next week’s budget will outline how we are going to create even more jobs for Tasmanians.
