Education Declaration paves way for 250 extra teachers

Today I signed Tasmania’s first Quality Teaching Declaration – An agreement between Tasmanian education leaders which lays the foundation for the employment of 250 more teachers.

Through a bold, new collaborative approach, The Hodgman Liberal Government has brought together Tasmania’s education leaders through an  Education Workforce Roundtable to welcome in a new era of achieving higher educational outcomes.

Today’s  Declaration is a formal statement of the Roundtable’s purpose and commitment to action, to increase educational outcomes, raise the status of the teaching profession, and ensure that Tasmania’s future workforce are skilled and job-ready.

We know from research that the quality of teaching has the biggest in-school influence on student outcomes, and this declaration, supported by the ongoing advice of the Roundtable will improve teacher quality and our commitment to increase the education workforce by an additional 358 staff, including 250 additional teachers and 80 teacher assistants.

Nationally endorsed by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership the Education Workforce Roundtable brings together the right decision makers to collaboratively deliver on commitments.

All members of the Roundtable are committed to working together to build a nation-leading system of co-ordinated education and I would like to thank everyone involved for their ongoing dedication to drive lasting change in educational improvement.
