Education at the heart of Tasmania’s future
The Government is committed to working with the University
of Tasmania to put education at the heart of Tasmania’s future.
Last year, we signed a ten year partnership agreement to reflect
the joint commitment of the Government and the University of Tasmania to
education in the State.
Over the last 12 months, significant progress has been made
and in accordance with AGENDA 2016, we are today releasing an update on the
partnership.
Key highlights include:
- A $300 million investment for campus
redevelopments in Launceston and Burnie;
- Agreement to develop a Creative Industries and
Performing Arts precinct in Hobart;
- Establishment of the Peter Underwood Centre for
Educational Attainment and its various programs;
- Renewed partnership between the University and
TasTAFE;
- Continued joint support for research institutes,
initiatives and programs particularly in the areas of agriculture, aquaculture
and medical research;
- Completion of the Tasmanian Premier’s
Scholarship fund; and
- Appointment of senior officers by both parties
to work together and lead activity relating to the partnership across each
organisation.
The Government and the University of Tasmania will continue
to work together on joint priorities in 2017 under the partnership boost
Tasmania’s economy, improve education levels and raise productivity.
