Edith Creek sale great news

The sale of Murray Goulburn’s Edith Creek facility to Dutch Mill Australia is great news for the Circular Head community.

As chair of the Hodgman Liberal Government’s Circular Head Regional Economic Development Working Group, I warmly welcome this sale.

The Liberal Government has been in discussions with Dutch Mill Australia throughout the sale process, and this outcome is a big win for the region.

The purchase is great news for workers and their families, who were unsure of the future when Murray Goulburn announced the closure of Edith Creek earlier in the year.

Dutch Mill Australia have made a commitment to the North West, and given their assurance to engage with local suppliers, workers and the surrounding community.

We will continue to work closely with Dutch Mill Australia to ensure the best possible outcome for Circular Head.

The Hodgman Liberal Government acted quickly to support the Circular Head community following the initial announcement that the facility would be closed.

In May the Government established the Working Group, and a total of $1.5 million was provided to directly assist workers and the surrounding community, and went towards initiatives to re-train and up-skill workers to help them find alternative employment.

Dutch Mill Australia expect the facility will reopen in the second quarter of 2018.
