Earlier this year the Department of Premier and Cabinet circulated a draft social media policy to unions for feedback.
The Government wants a practical approach to allow public servants to engage online, while ensuring that a sensible policy is in place to make sure behaviour is in line with the State Service Act and the State Service Code of Conduct.
The draft social media policy has a number of unintended consequences that are clearly out of step with community expectations.
I have asked the Secretary of the Department of Premier and Cabinet and the Director of the State Service Management Office to review the draft and ensure a common sense approach prevails in any final policy.
