Premier of Tasmania

Will Hodgman, Premier

Dr Vanessa Goodwin

It is with great sadness that I announce that Dr Goodwin will resign from the Cabinet, as Leader of the Government in the Legislative Council and as the Member for Pembroke.

Vanessa continues to battle serious illness with great courage, strength and resolve.

Vanessa has always put our State, and its Government first, and has been an exceptional MP and Minister.

She can now focus entirely on her own personal challenge, and will do so with the full support of her colleagues, and I am sure the Tasmanian public.

Vanessa loves the electorate of Pembroke, and has served it with distinction. She has fought hard for the community, and supported many constituents and local organisations.

As a Minister, Vanessa implemented important law reform, including strengthening sentencing laws,  providing a greater voice for victims and investing more into the prison service.

Vanessa was a most passionate Arts Minister, and provided strong support for the sector and oversaw reforms to ensure for more contemporary management of TMAG and the creative industries.

Vanessa has given so much of her life to making Tasmania a better place, and has much to be proud of.

I am sure all Tasmanians will join me in thanking Vanessa for her exceptional service, and in sending her our very best wishes.
