The Hodgman Liberal Government is continuing to advocate strongly for the State’s exporters and shippers to ensure we are not unduly disadvantaged by the Port of Melbourne privatisation.
We have consistently argued that commercial agreements with shippers and stevedores should be reached first to give certainty ahead of any privatisation deal.
We have been advised today by major stevedoring company DP World that it has come to a commercial agreement with the Port of Melbourne on the pricing of its terminal lease, and we are encouraged by this outcome.
This is a step in the right direction and bodes well for Bass Strait shipping companies that are also seeking to conclude terminal lease agreements before the Port is privatised.
