Jeremy Rockliff

Premier of Tasmania

27 September 2016

Jeremy Rockliff, Minister for Racing

Director of Racing

Tasmania’s Director of Racing, Tony Murray, will step down from his position after more than a decade in the role.

Tony has worked tirelessly to ensure the professional standards of Tasmania’s racing industry are of the highest level and I know he regarded his own integrity and that of the industry incredibly highly, and he can be justly proud of his contribution to the industry.

Most notable has been Tony’s work to separate the regulation and enforcement aspects of the industry to build greater confidence in the oversight of the racing industry.

Mr Murray’s resignation is immediate, for family and personal reasons, and a recruitment process will commence over coming weeks for a new Director of Racing.

Until the position is recruited, the statutory functions of the office are being undertaken by the Deputy Secretary of the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment who has responsibility for the Office of Racing Integrity.
