Direct flights between Hobart and Perth ready for take off

Tasmania’s thriving visitor economy is set to soar even higher with Virgin Australia announcing it will commence direct flights between Hobart and Perth in September.

As the only direct service between the two cities, these flights will provide more travel options for visitors and for Tasmanians wanting to go west, reducing travel time by up to three hours.

The service will commence on 17 September 2018, operating three days per week on a year-round basis, and will add more than 54,000 direct seats a year into Tasmania’s travel market.

In the year ending March 2018, the Tasmanian Visitor Survey showed we welcomed 51,800 visitors from Western Australia and the Government is committed to working with Virgin Australia to grow this number.

As part of the Government’s $12 million investment to market Tasmania as a premium destination to attract higher yielding visitors, Tourism Tasmania will implement a cooperative marketing campaign with the airline to encourage even more Western Australians to book their next holiday here.

The new service is great news for travellers and a welcome confirmation of Virgin Australia’s continued confidence in Tasmania as a premium destination.
