Devonport’s Living City delivering jobs and investment

The opening of stage one of Devonport’s Living City project marks an exciting point in the development of the city.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government has contributed $14 million to stage one of the Living City Project, as part of our $90 million Northern Cities Development Initiative.

Premier, Will Hodgman, said that the project will transform the city of Devonport, and have a major impact for the region.

“The Living City project has created many local jobs, and adds some new life to the heart of this great city," Mr Hodgman said.

“The fully completed project will also benefit the broader North West region, as it is is estimated it will generate $112 million annually in additional economic output, and provide up to 830 on-going jobs."

“It’s a credit to the vision of the Devonport City Council and all those who have worked hard to progress the Living City concept. The Tasmanian Liberal Government saw the potential of this project and committed to helping make it happen way back in 2014 before we were first elected."

Deputy Premier and Liberal Member for Braddon, Jeremy Rockliff, said that the Government had worked closely with Devonport City Council to facilitate the first stage of Living City.

“The opening of the paranaple centre – a multi-purpose civic centre - is the culmination of four years of work by the Devonport City Council and the State Government as part of the Living City transformation of Devonport. The paranaple centre is now home to State Government services including a new state-of-the-art Library and Service Tasmania as part of an integrated customer service centre," Mr Rockliff said.

“The Liberal Government is focused on ensuring the benefits of Tasmania’s economic turnaround are felt in the North West, and our investment in job-creating infrastructure such as the Living City Project is an example of this.”

We look forward to the ongoing progress of the Living City project and continuing to work with all tiers of Government to create jobs and investment in North West Tasmania.
