Devonport remains the home of the Spirits of Tasmania

Devonport will remain the home of the Spirits of Tasmania when the brand new vessels hit the water in 2021, cementing the city’s status as a tourism and freight gateway to the mainland.

The new vessels will be delivered two years ahead of schedule and are expected to bring up to 500 extra visitors to our State with each sailing, along with 115 additional passenger vehicles and 85 additional freight trailers.

The Spirits are critical to the State’s North West, and the new ships will bring even more people straight to the region to support local businesses and jobs.

People who travel on the Spirits stay longer and visit more regions than those who travel by air, which is great news for the Coast.

With the current Spirits at capacity with most sailings, it will also be a massive boost for our primary producers with a 39 per cent increase in freight space that will give them even greater capacity to get their product to market.

This is the single biggest tourism and infrastructure development in Tasmania that will help take our state to the next level.
