Departmental gifts register

The Government is committed to transparency and accountability and has today released the 2015-16 gifts register for Government departments.

The Government trusts its employees to exercise good judgment, supported by training and education and a clear accountability and reporting framework, and believes in a common-sense approach to this issue.

In September last year, the Integrity Commission released a report regarding giving gifts to public servants.

Importantly, the Integrity Commission report found no evidence gifts to public servants have led to actual or perceived bias.

The report made five recommendations, which the Government is acting on.

A new draft whole of government gift policy has been developed and was recently provided to the Integrity Commission for its feedback.  The Government is in the final stages of consultation on the policy and it is anticipated it will be finalised and formally adopted soon.
