Delivering Our Long-Term Plan
The Liberal Government is getting on with the job of
delivering our long-term Plan, and the signs are promising.
We have ended the Labor-Green recession, with Gross State Product growing again.
Business confidence is the highest in the nation and retail
trade continues to grow.
Building approvals in the year to September 2014 have increased by 23.2 per cent compared to
the previous year.
Nearly 3,000 new jobs have been created since the election,
and the gap between the state and national unemployment rates is the smallest
it has been since 2011.
We understand that there are no silver bullets, and that we
can't fix the problems of the 16 years of Labor and the Labor Green governments
overnight, but these are encouraging signs.
As this week marks the last week of Parliament for the year since the election,
I am pleased to report we have completed or are on track to complete every
single promise, including;
- Our first budget has almost halved the cumulative deficits, and cut net debt from $400 million to just $50 million;
- We have started taking Tasmanian High Schools to Year 12 to improve education results, and have recruited new specialist literacy and numeracy teachers
- We have increased the numbers of police, to make our communities safer;
- We have invested an additional $76 million into elective surgery, so more Tasmanians have their surgery, sooner;
- We are delivering a planning system that is faster, cheaper, simpler and fairer;
- We are providing a solution to the lack of an international shipping service to support our exporters;
- We have torn up the job-destroying forest deal, and passed legislation to protect workplaces from illegal protests and workplace invasion;
- We've appointed a Coordinator-General, to drive investment; and
- The first round of the EOI process for sensible development in national parks and the World Heritage Area has been completed;
We were elected to deliver our long-term Plan, and we are
getting on with the job.
