Deliverables 2017 – Building Tasmania’s future

The Hodgman Liberal Government has a big agenda for the coming year.

Deliverables 2017 is a summary of the actions that the Hodgman Liberal Government will take over the next 12 months as we continue to deliver on our long term Plan for a Brighter Future.

It builds on the positive results already achieved through three years of unified, disciplined Government.

We have an economy that is growing and more jobs – our unemployment rate is below 6 percent for the first time since 2011.

With the budget back in balance we have also been able to invest in what matters -  elective surgery waiting lists are now the shortest on record, we have more students staying on to year 12 and there’s more support for Tasmanians who need a hand.

Deliverables 2017 is the next steps in building Tasmania’s future.

It contains over 220 initiatives in priority areas such as jobs and economic growth, health and education, and supporting Tasmanians in need.

Highlights include:

Take delivery of new police vessel (q1)

Introduce legislation to unlock Tasmania’s productive forests to save jobs and end the subsidies (q1)

Introduce legislation to progress cable car (q2)

Release salmon industry Sustainable Growth Plan (q2)

Commence Stage 2 of the St Helens Barway project (q3)

Speciality timbers have access to wood bank (q3)

Commence construction of new Cradle Mountain visitor centre and Dove Lake lookout (q3)

Complete rebuild of police force to 1233 sworn officers (q4)

Complete Devonport Youth Accommodation facility - a key part of Affordable Housing Action Plan (q4)

Complete Launceston Ambulance Station upgrade (q1)

Commence build of new RHH tower (q3)

Legislate mandatory sentence for serious sex offences against children (q1)

Legislate to toughen the laws against police evaders (q1)

Legislate next stage of our Plan to phase-out suspended sentences (q2)

While much has been achieved there is always more to be done, which is why we are laying out a clear Plan for the next 12 months.

The Hodgman Government is getting on with the job of building Tasmania’s future
