Dark Mofo turns winter red hot

Since its inception in 2013, Dark Mofo has been a cultural beacon in Tasmania bringing locals out of hibernation and attracting visitors to the state in the traditionally quiet winter months.

Dark Mofo has continued to go from strength to strength. This year the festival has seen a 25 per cent increase in box office takings, with more than 100,000 tickets sold, driven by a 47 per cent increase in international ticket orders and 15 per cent increase in interstate ticket orders.

The Tasmanian Government is investing $10.5 million in our five-year partnership with Dark Mofo through Events Tasmania’s Major Event Partnerships Program.

The Tasmanian Government invests in events and festivals because they are an important part of our way of life, and of our visitor economy which support local businesses and jobs.

Tasmania cannot afford to take its tourism success for granted and we cannot afford to be complacent about the contribution that tourism makes to our economy, which is why my government remains its strongest supporter.
