Cradle Mountain upgrades supporting more investment

Today’s confirmation of plans to significantly invest in and upgrade the Cradle Mountain Lodge is a great demonstration of the Government working in collaboration with the private sector to further grow our booming tourism industry.

The Premier met today with representatives from Elanor Investors Group, owners of the Cradle Mountain Lodge, to discuss their exciting plans to further develop their facilities.

“I welcome news that following our commitment of $15 million investment in last week’s budget, the Elanor Group will bring forward a major investment in the Cradle Mountain Lodge”, Mr Hodgman said.

“Our plan to grow the economy prioritises investing in our competitive strengths, and in job creating infrastructure, including for our booming tourism industry.

Cradle Mountain is an iconic Tasmanian destination, and the Government’s budget commitment  is targeted at upgrades for the Dove Lake lookout, the Visitor Centre and associated public infrastructure around the Cradle Mountain National Park.

Marianne Ossovani, Chief Investment Officer and Head of Hotels, Tourism and Leisure, Elanor Investors Group, is in the State today to discuss investing in Cradle Mountain.

'We purchased Cradle Mountain Lodge as Moss Capital in 2012 and consider ourselves privileged to be the current custodians of this iconic Tasmanian tourism asset”, she said.

"We are pleased to say the property continues to perform exceptionally well and represents a jewel in the crown of our investment portfolio across Australia.

"We warmly welcome the Tasmanian Government's support for the project and the funding committed in last week's state budget.

"As a company, we are very excited by the Cradle Mountain Master Plan and what it means to the destination.  We have been actively participating in the development of the Master Plan along with other tourism operators in the region.

"I can confirm our company will be investing in enhancing our existing property at Cradle Mountain, and are interested in other opportunities associated with the Master Plan.

"We are already progressing plans to establish additional accommodation at Cradle Mountain Lodge, and expanding our offering to new visitor markets.

"We're also keen to speak with the Tasmanian Government about opportunities within the Master Plan, including the proposed Wilderness Village and the sustainable transport solution.

"We are excited about Tasmanian tourism and the growth the industry is experiencing has been critical to our investment plans.

"Cradle Mountain is an outstanding wilderness destination and we believe this Master Plan will add to this world class destination.”
