The next step in the Cradle Mountain Master Plan Project was reached last night with the Kentish Council approving the development application for crucial visitor infrastructure upgrades.
Cradle Mountain is a must see destination in Tasmania that attracts visitors from across the world, which is why we committed $21.8 million in the 2017/18 Budget to progress the Master Plan’s implementation.
The approval of the development application is great news as the current visitor infrastructure, services and buildings do not reflect the experience that many visitors expect. In particular the current main visitor centre is insufficient to deal with the expected demand into the future.
The key features of the approved upgrades include the construction of a new visitor centre, commercial services hub and village precinct, and a new viewing shelter and viewing platform at Dove Lake as well as a plan for improved transportation within the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.
Cradle Mountain is one of the state’s top tourism attractions, and these upgrades will help to attract more tourists to the state each year while injecting money back into the North-West regional economy.
