Tasmania is now a better place to live, work and invest than ever before, and the Hodgman Liberal Government believe no matter your age, every Tasmanian can be a part of our state’s brighter future.
Older Tasmanians especially, have a diverse wealth of knowledge and experience that can help build a more inclusive and vibrant Tasmania, which support social and economic growth.
I welcome today’s release of the Council on the Ageing Tasmania’s (COTA) report Embracing the Future, Tasmania’s Ageing Profile Part 1.
The report is the first in a series of publications that will provide data and help inform government policy and programs to better assist our older Tasmanians.
While the report highlights that an ageing population is a global phenomenon, it also shows Tasmania has the highest proportion of older Australians in the nation. While this comes with some challenges, it importantly also brings opportunities given the extensive knowledge and experience of our older citizens.
The report also reinforces the importance of the Government’s focus on supporting active ageing in the community, to ensure older Tasmanians are empowered to make choices about how they want to live, to continue learning, and are provided the opportunities to live how they want.
