Costa scholarships for North-West students welcomed

Today’s announcement that the Costa berry business at Wesley Vale will provide annual scholarship for North-West students is welcome news on both the education and jobs front.

The initiative by Costa to provide 8 scholarships over four years for North-West graduates and Year 12 graduates to study agriculture at the University of Tasmania in Hobart shows great confidence in Tasmania and the future of agriculture.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to creating jobs and the best way to do this is to create the right businesses climate for companies to expand and invest.

Costa has been investing and growing on the North-West Coast for several years now and these scholarships show that the company is committed to Tasmania for the long term and also to building and improving the skills of its workforce.

I congratulate Costa and its general manager Peter McPherson for this vote of confidence in Tasmanian agriculture and more specifically the skills and future of North-West Tasmanians.

This is a great example of the Tasmania and Federal governments working with the University and the business sector to create opportunities that will have long term benefits for Tasmania.

The Hodgman Liberal Government has a long term vision of doubling agricultural output by 2050 and with these types of training opportunities and markets opening up for our premium products into China and Asia there is an extremely bright future.
