Correctional Officer graduation

On behalf of the Tasmanian Government, I would like to officially welcome 12 new Correctional Officers to the Tasmanian Prison Service (TPS) after the successful completion of 13 weeks rigorous training.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to reinvesting in essential front-line services for the TPS, and the graduation today is further evidence of that.

Correctional Officers play an important role in contributing to a safer community by maintaining secure custody and humane treatment of inmates, and this cannot be achieved without a dedicated, skilled and professional workforce.

Both myself and TPS management are committed to doing everything we can to ensure both staff and inmates are safe and well supported, and recruiting additional Correctional Officers is an important part of that.

The new recruits will commence work as Correctional Officers on Monday 2 May.
