Tasmania cannot afford to be left behind in the information technology and innovation stakes and that is why the Tasmanian Government will continue to invest in developing our skilled information and communication technology workers of the future.
To mark the 2017 Tasmanian iAwards and TasICT Awards for Excellence last night, the Tasmanian Government will provide a further $95,000 for TasICT to develop an interactive online portal and app for careers in ICT through our Workforce Development Grants.
We will also provide an additional $75,000 for TasICT to continue to deliver workforce development activities in schools and ICT job placements, which will highlight a wide variety of ICT careers and how ICT is applied to develop workforce capability.
It is the third year of the iAwards and TasICT Awards for Excellence that honours Tasmanian organisations, individuals and students at the cutting edge of technology, as well as recognising the achievements of those from across the state, reflecting the creativity we can nurture as well as outlining the importance of this sector on our everyday lives and future career opportunities.
The new grants build on the Government’s previous investment in the sector including the 1133 different ICT vocational qualifications we have subsidised in recent years, $50,000 to support the pilot TasICT Generations Project encouraging the uptake of STEM and ICT studies, and the $400,000 we have invested with TasICT since 2014 to promote workforce and skills development such as Coding in Schools and IT@Work.
We also wish the iAward winners the best of luck in the 2017 National iAwards in August, in Melbourne.
