Consumer Law business guides updated and available now

Newly updated guides are now available to assist the community with their rights and obligations under the Australian Consumer Law.

The guides are completely free and available in hardcopy from Consumer, Building and Occupational Services and Service Tasmania shops, or online at www.consumer.tas.gov.au or www.accc.gov.au

The guides are all about providing consumers and businesses, and professional business advisors, with information in plain language that is accessible and easy to understand.

They include specific references to the applicable sections of the Australian Consumer Law and the ASIC Act, which means that Tasmanians won’t have to spend their time flicking through tomes of legislation to get the answers they want.

The five guides cover key areas of the Australian Consumer Law:

  • consumer guarantees;
  • unfair contract terms;
  • product safety;
  • sales practices; and
  • avoiding unfair business practices.

The overwhelming majority of Tasmanian businesses are doing the right thing by consumers and this is something to be proud of, but it always pays to check practices from time to time.

If Tasmanians would like any further information on the guides or to request a copy, they can contact the Consumer, Building and Occupational Services advice line on 1300 65 44 99.
