Congratulating our police graduates

The Tasmanian Government congratulates the 66 Tasmania Police officers graduating today from the University of Tasmania.

Tasmania Police is the only police service in Australia where the training and promotion aligns with a university bachelor degree in Police Studies.

One-third of Tasmania Police officers are currently enrolled in university studying, not including those who already have degrees.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to keeping Tasmanians safe and reducing serious crime. To achieve this, we will continue to support and invest in our police service.

We are investing $36.8 million to boost police numbers by a further 125 officers and build new police stations across the state.

We will also continue to provide Tasmania Police with contemporary equipment and technology to increase the safety of our officers, community members and victims of crime.

This week, we began the roll-out of body-worn cameras to police officers in Tasmania. This $3.4 million initiative over four years is aimed at improving the safety of police and the community.

The Tasmanian Government will continue to work towards our goal of making Tasmania the safest state to live, work and raise a family.
