Community boost for Lilydale

I am pleased to announce that the Hodgman Liberal Government will provide a one-off grant of $119,500 for a significant upgrade of the Lilydale Memorial Hall.

The grant arises from the sale of the former Mary Walsh Centre at Lilydale, in recognition of the excellent fundraising and support given to the centre over the many years of its operation by the Lilydale community.

Following discussions with the Launceston City Council and local community members, the significant upgrade of the bathroom and toilet facilities at the hall has been identified as an agreed priority.

This will help to ensure that the facility meets current amenity and disability access standards, so it can better serve its role as an important resource and focal point for all within the community.

Following the upgrade, my department will work with the council to allocate any unspent monies towards other agreed community projects.

I am pleased that the Tasmanian Government is able to assist with this contribution towards the upkeep and improvement of the much loved hall.

It is such an important meeting place for the Lilydale community, helping to keep our region’s history and spirit alive and well.
