It is extremely disappointing that Commonwealth Bank have announced their intention to close the Commonwealth Bank branch in Somerset.
This particular branch is the only bank branch in Somerset, and I have spoken to many locals who are understandably upset that Commonwealth Bank has made the decision to close it against the wishes of the community.
I know the decision is especially of concern to the many elderly and vulnerable people living in Somerset who cannot simply travel to Burnie or Wynyard when banking and who feel betrayed and dismayed at this decision.
I will now work with the community regarding other avenues for adequate banking services and I urge Commonwealth Bank to reconsider their decision, to the benefit of everyone in Somerset.
