Collective education initiative to benefit Tasmanian schools

The Hodgman Liberal Government is working to break the cycle of disadvantage and ensure the children of Tasmania have a brighter future.

That is why the Government is pleased to announce a new initiative that will further support education outcomes and give every Tasmanian student their best chance for a better life.

With the budget back on track, the new Collective Ed initiative is a $15 million investment in education, through a partnership between the Tasmanian Government, the Beacon Foundation, and the Paul Ramsay Foundation.

Rokeby High School, Jordan River Learning Federation, and Ulverstone High School will begin the Collective Ed pilot program in 2017 as a result of the Expression of Interest  advertised in November 2016.

The  project aims to address the low year 12 attainment of students in Government schools, and help equip students with the necessary skills to successfully transition into their chosen careers.

This initiative recognises the importance of community involvement in education, and takes a collaborative approach to producing the best possible education, and career-readiness outcomes for students by bringing them and the school community together.

This is the kind of collaboration that can drive major change in Tasmanian education that  creates opportunities and lifts aspirations.

The Collective Ed initiative will link schools with local and global industry representatives to co-design and co-deliver lessons, creating engaging learning that aligns with relevant industry practice, building on our current My Education approach.

A subsequent Expression of Interest process will be undertaken for an additional three schools to participate in 2018.

The Hodgman Liberal Government supports these initiatives to help improve the education results of our state because Tasmanians deserve better, today and for generations to come.
