Jeremy Rockliff, Minister for Education and Training

Colin Pettit

Department of Education Secretary Colin Pettit will leave the role of Secretary of Education effective Friday 28 August 2015 and return to Western Australia.

On behalf of the Government, I thank Colin for the dedication he has demonstrated in the role since he commenced in February 2011, and wish him well for the future.

During his time in Education, Colin led the strategic direction for the Department; developed “Edi”, a world class data-sharing platform for all schools; implemented a professional learning institute for all staff; and oversaw the formation of TasTAFE and the newly formed Tasmanian Standards, Assessment and Certification (TASC) office.

Other achievements include leading the extension of 13 Tasmanian rural and regional high schools to offer years 11-12.

Colin also oversaw the introduction of Workforce Development Initiatives, in conjunction with the University of Tasmania, that aim to provide ongoing development for staff, and the review of the Education Act

This is a vital time for education in Tasmania, and the Government has made a $1.44 billion commitment to raising educational standards and giving every young Tasmanian the very best opportunity for a bright future.

I am pleased to announce that Mr Stephen Conway, CEO of TasTAFE, has agreed to fill the role of Acting Secretary while a recruitment process is undertaken.
