The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to reducing the costs of living for Tasmanians.
The cost of filling up a car is a major impost on the household budget for a great many Tasmanians, and fluctuating petrol prices are a source of constant frustration.
We know motorists want clear information on prices so they can make informed choices on where to buy their fuel.
That’s why we are introducing a Code of Practice for Fuel Price Boards that will, once passed, ensure that only normal, not discounted petrol prices are displayed on price boards at service stations.
This will help make it easier for Tasmanian motorists to quickly and accurately determine the price of fuel.
The new Code will sit alongside GasBuddy, a free mobile app supported by the Government through a $60,000 grant to the RACT earlier this year.
GasBuddy provides public access to service station petrol prices sources from consumer-submitted data.
Tasmanian motorists using GasBuddy are able to find timely and accurate fuel prices in their area, and also submit fuel price updates themselves to help others.
Tabled in Parliament today, the Code of Practice was developed in consultation with the RACT, the TCCI, industry and the wider community.
