Christmas Carnivals kick off

Tasmanians will again be able to see some of the state's best athletes compete against interstate adversaries and international rivals at the Christmas Carnivals series.

The Hodgman Liberal Government has committed $150,000 this year to the Sports Carnivals Association of Tasmania to promote the series and support the administration and operation of the carnivals.

Part of a four-year funding deal worth $600,000, I'm proud to be part of a Government that supports this fantastic series.

Carnivals are a special part of the summer calendar in Tasmania and thousands of spectators are expected to attend the iconic events right across the state.

We have already seen some spectacular racing in Rosebery, Westbury, Latrobe, Launceston and Ulverstone.

This year also marks the 130-year anniversary of the annual Burnie New Year's Day Carnival which is a hugely popular event.

The dates of the remaining Tasmanian Christmas Carnivals series are:

Latrobe December 27th

Devonport – 29th and 30th December

Burnie Criterium – 31st December

Burnie 1st January 2017

Hobart – 8th January

St Helens – 21st January
