Chair appointed to drive fight against weeds

Tasmania will step up its fight against significant agricultural and environmental weeds with the appointment of the Chair to the Government’s $5 million Weeds Action Fund.

As a rural business owner, Ian Sauer will bring strong skills to the role as Chair, which includes extensive experience in the land care and natural resource management sector.

Weed control activities and lost agricultural production are a substantial cost to Tasmanian farmers and I look forward to working with Ian to reduce the serious impact and threat of weeds across our state.

Mr Sauer will also ensure there is broad participation with key stakeholders to achieve sustainable, targeted control of significant agricultural and environmental weeds.

The establishment of the Weeds Action Fund is yet another positive step towards achieving the Government’s aim to increase the annual value of the agricultural sector to $10 billion by 2050.
