Celebrating World Teachers' Day

Around the world teachers will be recognised today for their positive contribution to the future of our young people.

World Teachers' Day is a great opportunity for all of us in the Tasmanian community to say thank you to our teachers for their commitment and for the important role they play in our society.

While the Liberal Government has committed to record investment in education to drive major reforms to improve outcomes, our greatest resource is already here – our people.

The Auditor-General, in his June report, reinforced what is already clear: teacher quality is the single most important in-school factor influencing student achievement.

It is the work that teachers, and indeed support staff, do in our schools along with appropriate policies and investment that will ultimately lift education in Tasmania.

On behalf of the Government, I want to thank all Tasmanian teachers for their efforts, and I hope they are all enjoying a well-earned break as they recharge their batteries for Term 4.
