Celebrating Tasmania's important volunteers

This week is National Volunteer Week - the perfect time to thank and acknowledge Tasmania’s generous and self-sacrificial volunteers.

Today on the 30th anniversary of National Volunteering Day, we celebrate Tasmanian volunteers and recognise the important work they do, at the 2019 Tasmanian Volunteering Awards.

Tasmanians can be proud of their strong commitment to volunteering, which is a vital part of our community. Without volunteers, many of the events, services and supports we enjoy simply would not happen.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is a strong supporter of the Tasmanian Volunteering Awards, which celebrate and recognise the generosity of volunteers who freely give their time and skills to help Tasmania’s communities.

I was delighted to announce that Share the Dignity’s Tasmanian Team Leader, Tania Watson, is the recipient of the 2019 Premier’s Volunteer of the Year Award.

Share the Dignity is a charity that supports women and girls in need by providing them with essential sanitary items.

Ms Watson leads a team of 70 passionate volunteers who support women and girls in Tasmania experiencing homelessness, escaping domestic violence, or experiencing financial hardship.

I congratulate and thank Volunteering Tasmania and the sponsors of these awards as well as all the volunteers recognised today for their important work and time given freely for the betterment of our community.
