Celebrating school-based apprentices during National Skills Week

Building a stronger economy and creating jobs remains the Hodgman Liberal Government’s number one priority, and to ensure success we need to support our vocational education and training sector.

National Skills Week is a great opportunity to promote our support for helping more young Tasmanians into work, such as through our school-based apprenticeships and employers.

There are numerous success stories of young Tasmanians benefitting from the education, training opportunities and careers this program gives them.

We have been working closely with a number of businesses over the last few months, including Stornoway and Direct Edge, who have recently signed up a number of new school-based apprentices here on the North-West coast.

I congratulate these businesses for their vision and commitment to developing their workforce and our young people – supporting business growth while engaging and supporting Tasmania’s next generation of the workforce.

These businesses are helping give students the motivation to ‘earn and learn’, which will give them a head-start in their chosen career.

I also congratulate the students who have recently signed up to a school-based apprenticeship with these employers – finishing your studies at the same time as getting first hand work experience is a smart way to set yourself up for a bright future.
