Celebrating 50 years of protecting the Longley/Sandfly community

The Hodgman Liberal Government is a proud supporter of the Tasmania Fire Service and recognises the important work volunteer firefighters play in protecting our communities.

Today I attended the Longley/Sandfly Fire Brigade’s Jubilee, celebrating 50 years of protecting the Sandfly and Lower Longley area.

I had the honour of presenting 50th Jubilee medals to members of the Longley/Sandfly Fire Brigade and to thank all the volunteers and their families for their ongoing support and dedication to the continued success of the station.

The Longley/Sandfly Fire Brigade is a volunteer run station that directly protects more than 600 residences in the local area.

The Brigade is also called upon to respond to incidents not directly involving fire, including hazardous materials, road crash rescue, motor vehicle accidents, long running campaign fires and to assist ambulance and police personnel.

The Brigade also provides assistance to members of our rural community through fire awareness activities and by assisting with fire management planning and advice in relation to home protection in the event of a major bush fire.
