Celebrating 10 years of Men’s Sheds in Tasmania

The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is a strong supporter of Men’s Sheds and recognises the valuable role they play in fostering community spirit and building a more inclusive Tasmania.

This year marks 10 years since the Tasmanian Men’s Shed Association (TSMA) was created, and on this special anniversary it is important to acknowledge the fantastic contribution Men’s Sheds have made in the state.

They provide a safe and supportive place for men to connect, engage and get involved in meaningful community activities and projects.

Men’s Sheds around the state have hundreds of dedicated volunteers who deserve special recognition for the enormous amounts of time and effort they give in support of their local shed.

To mark the TMSA 10th birthday anniversary celebrations, it is my pleasure to announce the successful applicants of the 2019-20 TMSA Grants program.

A total of 25 Men’s Sheds throughout Tasmania will share in $125,000 to support shed development and deliver projects that will benefit the wider community.

Under the TMSA Grants Program, eligible organisations were invited to apply for grants of up to $20,000 for capital works projects, and grants of up to $5,000 for tools, equipment, member training and community initiatives.

Successful applicants include:

  • Veterans and Community Wood Centre – for the purchase and installation of solar panels;
  • Zeehan Men’s Shed – to purchase a chainsaw and log splitter to cut and split donated wood;
  • Furneaux Islands Community Shed – to purchase an accurate and reliable drop saw;
  • West Winds Men’s Shed – an extension to meet increasing use of the shed; and
  • Penguin Men’s Shed – to purchase a new band saw and thicknesser to meet safety requirements.
