Carers Tasmania to become sector’s peak body

For 25 years, Carers Tasmania has worked to improve the health, wellbeing and resilience of our amazing carers, and to raise awareness about their rights and needs.

From today, Carers Tasmania will become the official peak body for Tasmania’s 84,000 carers which will give this important organisation greater scope to advocate and support those who care for others.

This delivers on the Tasmanian Liberal Government’s commitment to strengthen our community by funding the creation of peak bodies to represent important sectors.

Our peak bodies play a very important role as advocates, in providing advice to government, and raising awareness of available government programs and services.

Carers Tasmania, along with Tasmania’s other peak bodies, will receive $110,000 per annum, indexed by 2.25 per cent per annum from 2019-2020, to fund their work representing important sectors of our community.

Last year, the Government released the Tasmanian Carer Action Plan to increase the recognition of carers, improve the level of support and services they receive, and involve them in developing and evaluating policies, programs and services that affect them in their caring role.
