Call to Enjoy Cracker Night Safely

Tasmanians looking forward to enjoying Cracker Night this Saturday are urged to have fun, but take care.

Many community groups and individuals will be hosting fireworks displays across the State, with 475 permits issued for this year’s Cracker Night – traditionally a celebration of Commonwealth Day.

While people of all ages enjoy watching fireworks, it is important to be aware that they can be dangerous and children particularly should be kept safe.

All firework display permits come with a set of conditions designed to ensure safety and to minimise disturbance to other people, pets and livestock.

The use of fireworks must be supervised by the permit holder and not exceed 30 minutes duration, while seven days’ notice must be given of the proposed display.

There are also conditions preventing displays in unsafe weather.

Above all, we urge all Tasmanians holding or attending Cracker Night events to ensure that they make safety their first priority.
