Businesses thriving under Liberal Government

Tasmania’s business confidence remains strong and is being boosted by the job-creating policies of the Hodgman Liberal Government.

Wilson Homes is a great example of a Tasmanian business that is thriving under our government, and I was delighted today to meet with CEO Ben Wilson to discuss their plans for growth.

Jobs are the government’s number one priority and Wilson Homes is set to create nine new full-time positions within the next six months, with the opening of a new office in Launceston and the establishment of a new in-house design drafting service.

This comes after their 2014 move to a bigger Hobart premises saw the creation of an additional five full-time jobs, and is a fantastic vote of confidence for Tasmania’s building sector that employs thousands of Tasmanians

It’s great news for job-seekers, the building industry, and the Tasmanian economy, and confirms the most recent NAB business survey results that has Tasmania’s business confidence among the highest in the nation.

The Government understands the value of the building industry to Tasmania, which is why we have provided continual investment to ensure its prosperity and growth.

The 2016-17 budget included an increase of the First Home Builder’s to $20,000 that is expected to generate around $175 million worth of building activity, and we are also fixing the planning system and implementing the headworks holiday that has slashed the cost of investing.
