Creating jobs is the Hodgman Government’s top priority. Since we were elected 8,400 jobs have been created and the unemployment rate is now the lowest it’s been in six years.
But there is still more to do and that’s why last month’s Budget contained a $25 million youth employment strategy that will give young Tasmanians a helping hand to land a job.
The centrepiece of the employment strategy is our plan to help more businesses hire apprentices, trainees and young people.
Larger businesses will be offered payroll tax rebates for every new apprentice, trainee and young person employed, while small businesses will receive a direct cash payment for every new apprentice and trainee employed.
These incentives begin on 1 July this year and today I am inviting any business in Tasmania that’s looking to hire to pre-register via the Treasury website so they don’t miss out on this exciting imitative.
All up, the jobs package that we announced in the Budget is expected to support up to 7,600 young Tasmanians into jobs in Tasmania.
